I was wondering what this hub bub about Palin and dinosaurs was...

"The Lord made dinosaurs 4,000 years ago as flawed creatures, lizards of Satan really, so when they died and became petroleum products we, made in his perfect image, could use them in our pickup trucks, snow machines and fishing boats."

Sarah Palin, Republican Nominee for Vice President of the United States of America 2008

Palin's record in AK

Copied from http://www.andrys.com/palin-kilkenny.html

A note to all by Anne Kilkenny'

Dear friends,
So many people have asked me about what I know about Sarah Palin in thelast 2 days that I decided to write something up . . .

Basically, Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton have only 2 things incommon: their gender and their good looks. :)You have my permission to forward this to your friends/email contactswith my name and email address attached, but please do not post it onany websites, as there are too many kooks out there . . . [ This was already posted on Washington Independent comments area, with a controllable hotmail account, and was obviously meant by the author to be read. ]
Thanks,
Anne

ABOUT SARAH PALINI am a resident of Wasilla, Alaska.

I have known Sarah since 1992.Everyone here knows Sarah, so it is nothing special to say we are on afirst-name basis. Our children have attended the same schools. Herfather was my child's favorite substitute teacher. I also am on afirst name basis with her parents and mother-in-law. I attended moreCity Council meetings during her administration than about 99% of theresidents of the city. She is enormously popular; in every way she’s like the most populargirl in middle school. Even men who think she is a poor choice andwon't vote for her can't quit smiling when talking about her becauseshe is a "babe".It is astonishing and almost scary how well she can keep a secret. Shekept her most recent pregnancy a secret from her children and parentsfor seven months. She is "pro-life". She recently gave birth to a Down's syndrome baby. There is no cover-up involved, here; Trig is her baby. She is energetic and hardworking. She regularly worked out at the gym.She is savvy. She doesn't take positions; she just "puts things outthere" and if they prove to be popular, then she takes credit. Her husband works a union job on the North Slope for BP and is achampion snowmobile racer. Todd Palin’s kind of job is highlysought-after because of the schedule and high pay. He arranges hiswork schedule so he can fish for salmon in Bristol Bay for a month orso in summer, but by no stretch of the imagination is fishing theirmajor source of income. Nor has her life-style ever been anythinglike that of native Alaskans.Sarah and her whole family are avid hunters. She's smart. Her experience is as mayor of a city with a population of about 5,000(at the time), and less than 2 years as governor of a state with about670,000 residents.During her mayoral administration most of the actual work of runningthis small city was turned over to an administrator. She had beenpushed to hire this administrator by party power-brokers after she hadgotten herself into some trouble over precipitous firings which hadgiven rise to a recall campaign.Sarah campaigned in Wasilla as a “fiscal conservative”. During her 6years as Mayor, she increased general government expenditures by over33%. During those same 6 years the amount of taxes collected by theCity increased by 38%. This was during a period of low inflation(1996-2002). She reduced progressive property taxes and increased aregressive sales tax which taxed even food. The tax cuts that shepromoted benefited large corporate property owners way more than theybenefited residents. The huge increases in tax revenues during her mayoral administrationweren’t enough to fund everything on her wish list though, borrowedmoney was needed, too. She inherited a city with zero debt, but left itwith indebtedness of over $22 million. What did Mayor Palin encouragethe voters to borrow money for? Was it the infrastructure that she saidshe supported? The sewage treatment plant that the city lacked? or anew library? No. $1m for a park. $15m-plus for construction of amulti-use sports complex which she rushed through to build on a pieceof property that the City didn’t even have clear title to, that wasstill in litigation 7 yrs later--to the delight of the lawyersinvolved! The sports complex itself is a nice addition to thecommunity but a huge money pit, not the profit-generator she claimed itwould be. She also supported bonds for $5.5m for road projects thatcould have been done in 5-7 yrs without any borrowing.

While Mayor, City Hall was extensively remodeled and her officeredecorated more than once. These are small numbers, but Wasilla is a very small city.As an oil producer, the high price of oil has created a budget surplusin Alaska. Rather than invest this surplus in technology that willmake us energy independent and increase efficiency, as Governor sheproposed distribution of this surplus to every individual in the state. In this time of record state revenues and budget surpluses, sherecommended that the state borrow/bond for road projects, even whileshe proposed distribution of surplus state revenues: spend today'ssurplus, borrow for needs. She’s not very tolerant of divergent opinions or open to outside ideasor compromise. As Mayor, she fought ideas that weren’t generated byher or her staff. Ideas weren’t evaluated on their merits, but on thebasis of who proposed them. While Sarah was Mayor of Wasilla she tried to fire our highly respectedCity Librarian because the Librarian refused to consider removing fromthe library some books that Sarah wanted removed. City residentsrallied to the defense of the City Librarian and against Palin'sattempt at out-and-out censorship, so Palin backed down and withdrewher termination letter. People who fought her attempt to oust theLibrarian are on her enemies list to this day.Sarah complained about the “old boy’s club” when she first ran forMayor, so what did she bring Wasilla? A new set of "old boys". Palinfired most of the experienced staff she inherited. At the City and asGovernor she hired or elevated new, inexperienced, obscure people, creating a staff totally dependent on her for their jobs and eternallygrateful and fiercely loyal--loyal to the point of abusing their powerto further her personal agenda, as she has acknowledged happened in thecase of pressuring the State’s top cop (see below).

As Mayor, Sarah fired Wasilla’s Police Chief because he “intimidated”her, she told the press. As Governor, her recent firing of Alaska's topcop has the ring of familiarity about it. He served at her pleasureand she had every legal right to fire him, but it's pretty clear thatan important factor in her decision to fire him was because he wouldn'tfire her sister's ex-husband, a State Trooper. Under investigationfor abuse of power, she has had to admit that more than 2 dozencontacts were made between her staff and family to the person that shelater fired, pressuring him to fire her ex-brother-in-law. She tried toreplace the man she fired with a man who she knew had been reprimandedfor sexual harassment; when this caused a public furor, she withdrewher support. She has bitten the hand of every person who extended theirs to her inhelp. The City Council person who personally escorted her around townintroducing her to voters when she first ran for Wasilla City Councilbecame one of her first targets when she was later elected Mayor. Sheabruptly fired her loyal City Administrator; even people who didn’tlike the guy were stunned by this ruthlessness.Fear of retribution has kept all of these people from saying anythingpublicly about her. When then-Governor Murkowski was handing out political plums, Sarah gotthe best, Chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission: oneof the few jobs not in Juneau and one of the best paid. She had nobackground in oil & gas issues. Within months of scoring this greatjob which paid $122,400/yr, she was complaining in the press about thehigh salary. I was told that she hated that job: the commute, thestructured hours, the work. Sarah became aware that a member of thisCommission (who was also the State Chair of the Republican Party)engaged in unethical behavior on the job. In a gutsy move which someundoubtedly cautioned her could be political suicide, Sarah solved allher problems in one fell swoop: got out of the job she hated andgarnered gobs of media attention as the patron saint of ethics and as agutsy fighter against the “old boys’ club” when she dramatically quit, exposing this man’s ethics violations (for which he was fined). As Mayor, she had her hand stuck out as far as anyone for pork fromSenator Ted Stevens. Lately, she has castigated his pork-barrelpolitics and publicly humiliated him. She only opposed the “bridge tonowhere” after it became clear that it would be unwise not to.As Governor, she gave the Legislature no direction and budgetguidelines, then made a big grandstand display of line-item vetoingprojects, calling them pork. Public outcry and further legislativeaction restored most of these projects--which had been vetoed simplybecause she was not aware of their importance--but with the unobservantshe had gained a reputation as “anti-pork”.She is solidly Republican: no political maverick. The State partyleaders hate her because she has bit them in the back and humiliatedthem. Other members of the party object to her self-description as afiscal conservative.Around Wasilla there are people who went to high school with Sarah. They call her “Sarah Barracuda” because of her unbridled ambition andpredatory ruthlessness. Before she became so powerful, very uglystories circulated around town about shenanigans she pulled to be madepoint guard on the high school basketball team. When Sarah'smother-in-law, a highly respected member of the community andexperienced manager, ran for Mayor, Sarah refused to endorse her.As Governor, she stepped outside of the box and put together of packageof legislation known as “AGIA” that forced the oil companies to marchto the beat of her drum.Like most Alaskans, she favors drilling in the Arctic National WildlifeRefuge. She has questioned if the loss of sea ice is linked toglobal warming. She campaigned “as a private citizen” against a stateinitiaitive that would have either a) protected salmon streams frompollution from mines, or b) tied up in the courts all mining in thestate (depending on who you listen to). She has pushed the State’slawsuit against the Dept. of the Interior’s decision to list polarbears as threatened species.McCain is the oldest person to ever run for President; Sarah will be aheartbeat away from being President. There has to be literally millions of Americans who are moreknowledgeable and experienced than she. However, there’s a lot of people who have underestimated her and areregretting it.CLAIM VS FACT•“Hockey mom”: true for a few years•“PTA mom”: true years ago when her first-born was in elementaryschool, not since•“NRA supporter”: absolutely true•social conservative: mixed. Opposes gay marriage, BUT vetoed a billthat would have denied benefits to employees in same-sex relationships(said she did this because it was unconsitutional).•pro-creationism: mixed. Supports it, BUT did nothing as Governor topromote it.•“Pro-life”: mixed. Knowingly gave birth to a Down’s syndrome babyBUT declined to call a special legislative session on some pro-lifelegislation•“Experienced”: Some high schools have more students than Wasilla hasresidents. Many cities have more residents than the state of Alaska. No legislative experience other than City Council. Little hands-onsupervisory or managerial experience; needed help of a cityadministrator to run town of about 5,000.•political maverick: not at all•gutsy: absolutely!•open & transparent: ??? Good at keeping secrets. Not good atexplaining actions.•has a developed philosophy of public policy: no•”a Greenie”: no. Turned Wasilla into a wasteland of big box storesand disconnected parking lots. Is pro-drilling off-shore and in ANWR.•fiscal conservative: not by my definition!•pro-infrastructure: No. Promoted a sports complex and park in a citywithout a sewage treatment plant or storm drainage system. Builtstreets to early 20th century standards.•pro-tax relief: Lowered taxes for businesses, increased tax burden onresidents•pro-small government: No. Oversaw greatest expansion of citygovernment in Wasilla’s history.•pro-labor/pro-union. No. Just because her husband works uniondoesn’t make her pro-labor. I have seen nothing to support any claimthat she is pro-labor/pro-union.WHY AM I WRITING THIS?First, I have long believed in the importance of being an informedvoter. I am a voter registrar. For 10 years I put on student votingprograms in the schools. If you google my name (Anne Kilkenny +Alaska), you will find references to my participation in localgovernment, education, and PTA/parent organizations.Secondly, I've always operated in the belief that "Bad things happenwhen good people stay silent". Few people know as much as I do becausefew have gone to as many City Council meetings.Third, I am just a housewife. I don't have a job she can bump me outof. I don't belong to any organization that she can hurt. But, I am nofool; she is immensely popular here, and it is likely that this willcost me somehow in the future: that’s life.Fourth, she has hated me since back in 1996, when I was one of the 100or so people who rallied to support the City Librarian against Sarah'sattempt at censorship.Fifth, I looked around and realized that everybody else was afraid tosay anything because they were somehow vulnerable.CAVEATSI am not a statistician. I developed the numbers for the increase inspending & taxation 2 years ago (when Palin was running for Governor)from information supplied to me by the Finance Director of the City ofWasilla, and I can't recall exactly what I adjusted for: did I adjustfor inflation? for population increases? Right now, it is impossiblefor a private person to get any info out of City Hall--they areswamped. So I can't verify my numbers. You may have noticed that there are various numbers circulating for thepopulation of Wasilla, ranging from my "about 5,000", up to 9,000. Theday Palin’s selection was announced a city official told me that thecurrent population is about 7,000. The official 2000 census count was5,460. I have used about 5,000 because Palin was Mayor from 1996 to2002, and the city was growing rapidly in the mid-90’s.

McCain's Choice of Palin for Veep

At first I thought McCain held on to the VP announcement until Friday to quash the Obama Fantastic speech stories - But after learning more about her I am wondering if he is doing what presidential campaigns call "dumping" - leaving something bad to Friday afternoon to bury it in the weekend news cycle.

Write in ballot anyone???

http://www.charlestoncitypaper.com/gyrobase/Content?oid=oid%3A47105

Democrat Bob Conley stands for ending illegal immigration, protecting American workers, b ringing our troops home from Iraq, increasing veterans' benefits, reducing our dependence on foreign oil, ending Wall Street bailouts, repealing the Patriot Act, cutting spending, and fidelity to the Constitution. Conley, the Democrat, sounds more like Ron Paul, the Republican. As it turns out Conley voted for Paul in February.
When asked about his challenger Conley's conservatism, Graham said, "From what I can tell, he doesn't represent moderation. I represent a brand of conservatism that you will feel comfortable with."

Someone please pass the write-in ballot... please?

Party Crasher

Seems the Greenville republican lovefest had an unwanted guest -

Democrat Conley drops in on republican meeting
COLUMBIA
(AP) – Greenville Republicans weren’t amused when Democratic U.S. Senate
candidate Bob Conley showed up at a meeting.County party chairman Sam Harms said
it amounted to party crashing by a candidate trying to get attention. Harms said
Tuesday that a Conley staff member wanted Conley to talk at the executive
committee meeting.Conley campaign manager Lee Griggs said that never happened.
He says Conley was there at the request of a Republican supporter and never
intended to crash the party. He said Conley sat at the back of the room and
didn’t want to address the crowd.
Hmmm ...one article lists Conley as "more conservative than Lindsey "Bush" Graham?" WHAAA??? Is that possible? McCain's near constant compainion, W's goto guy on the war, and confirmed bachelor Lindsey Graham???

hypocrites

The republicans are pulling this stunt now to get the off-shore drilling started. I just listened to Gresham's interview on shotline... (he said the word America so much as part of his propaganda it was insulting to anything thinking person) The only reason they are for this stunt is because it more land to Big Oil when they already aren't drilling on millions and millions of acres because "they don't have enough rigs"

They have fillabustered or defeated 3 prior bills the dems have preposed because they were not favorable to BIG OIL. (They blocked on to roll back tax breaks to BigO, repub's blocked wind, solar energy investments, they blocked limits on speculators, they also blocked requirements that oil drilled for in the US be used in the US)

eg:

Thursday, December 13, 2007; 11:49 AM
By a narrow margin, the Senate today failed again to block a Republican-led filibuster on an energy bill as GOP leaders made a stand against a $21.8 billion, 10-year tax package that would have extended incentives for wind and solar energy and reduced some tax breaks for oil companies.

Wake up world, see this for what it really is... a PR stunt.

Media = McCain staff????

wth?

Ok I am still fuming over this story from yesterday, "Obama backs away from pledge to debate McCain" Seriously... is the press so far up JSM's anal cavity that they can't see the light of day? This was all over the internet and news... BUT if you look at the article. JSM is the one backing away from debates!!!!

Quote (hard to find because most papers, including my local paper had scrubbed this paragraph from the article)

"Asked by The Associated Press if that meant Obama would not agree to any other debates, Psaki said, "We're not saying that." She said the McCain campaign had rejected Obama's proposal for two joint town hall meetings."

NO MEDIA OUTLET HAS MENTIONED THIS!!!!! GOOGLE THE ARTICLES IT WAS SCRUBBED FROM MOST

Even when Obama said it was a good idea he didn't say he would do it ONLY on JSM's terms.

"Obama said then: "Obviously, we would have to think through the logistics on that, but ... if I have the opportunity to debate substantive issues before the voters with John McCain, that's something that I am going to welcome."

Obama gave them logistics that would work for him... MCCAIN SAID NO

ok off my soapbox... but all the media are all just spewing McCain talking points day in and day out and it is making me crazy... Someone please SOMEONE - ANYONE call them on this.

Greenville news gives Kevin Bryant a thumbs down

Now if they could only give him a ticket out of the statehouse!

Thumbs Down: Blog stirs up controversyThumbs Down to state Sen. Kevin Bryant of Anderson for his over-the-top blog posting that, to borrow words from some Democrats, was "classless" and "tasteless." The Republican freshman senator stirred up controversy with a picture that roughly compared terrorist leader Osama bin Laden and presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. The two are featured facing each other, along with their names and the childish comment that the difference between them "is just a little B.S." Bryant took the picture off his blog but continued to link to it. Blogs can get rough sometimes, but Bryant associates his with his official elected duties, even thanking visitors for "visiting the Legislature's first blog." That makes this offense even worse.

Presumptive Nominee Barack Obama

Ladies and Gentleman the next President of the United States... Barack Obama

Congress says Sandford Shmanford

How far out of touch is potential veep Sandford? In his ongoing effort to screw the poor, Sanford veto'd health insurance for children. He also veto's legal aid to the poor - unfortunately for Sandford this was overturned today 113-0, yes 113-0... to NOTHING

He rolled around the upstate Monday with other elected Rebubbacans speaking in support of his veto's, but hmmm seems congress didn't get the word.

McCain Dirty Tricks

Recently on my stops into HRC's land (the Hillblazer blog) I have noticed several posts telling people NOT to vote independant in the Fall election, that they needed to vote for McCain to make certain Obama loses. I have thought all along that a lot of the anger is spurred by rouge Republicans seeking to cause mischief.

Here is a copy of an alledged leaked memo posted I came across on Digg

So much for doing away with old way of doing things...

Gov. Sanford "busted" by The State

The State completely busts Potential VP canidate Sanford using some underhanded tactics

At a news conference last month, about a dozen State House candidates gathered to unveil a four-point pledge to change the way state government operates by lowering spending, changing the way judges are selected and passing ethics reform.
The pledge, they said, was modeled on the Contract With America that the GOP used to take control of Congress in the mid-1990s.
“I started kicking these ideas around and thought it might make sense to put them down in writing,” said Tom Davis, the former chief of staff to Gov. Mark Sanford, who is running for state Senate in Beaufort County.
The signers’ June 10 primary opponents say they were never offered a chance to review or sign the pledge, and skeptics say the contract is more evidence of a stealthy, coordinated effort to elect like-minded candidates by groups loyal to Sanford and funded by out-of-state money.
Oppsies... caught playing in the dirt Mr Sanford?

Voice of Light and Reason

During a fund-raiser in Denver, Obama --a former constitutional law professor at the University of Chicago Law School -- was asked what he hoped to accomplish during his first 100 days in office.
"I would call my attorney general in and review every single executive order issued by George Bush and overturn those laws or executive decisions that I feel violate the constitution," said Obama."

I know that a President who wants to follow the constitution shouldn't be shocking... But OMG... this nearly brought tears of joy to my eyes!

Poor Lindsey

From the Dann Hooper of the G-Ville news Lindsey Bush Graham (LBG) speech today wasn't exactly a luv fest for W:

"At his first mention of Bush's visit, Graham paused, waiting for applause. When it didn't come, it took a slight nod from Graham to prompt a round of applause. "President Bush is my friend," he continued, "and I'm not going to run away from the friend." Graham credited Bush with preventing additional attacks on the U.S. since 9/11, cutting taxes three times and successfully nominating Chief Justice John Roberts and Associate Justice Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court.
"History is going to judge him a lot better than everybody thinks," Graham predicted. "

Keep drinking the Kool Aid LBG, keep drinking...

Time to find out more about this Michael Cone fellow.

Evil republican ploy or insanity?

OK... so every no and then I pop onto Hillary's blog to see what's up... and for the past several mos. every blog seems to contain at least one post (usually several) singing the praises of Fox "News." Here is just a sample from a rather long thread going today extolling the virtues of Billo

RE: O'Reily's Show Last Night
Thank you so much for informing us of the O'Reily Show. Wow!! Good for him!! Finally someone stands up for Hillary, and gives NBC what they deserve, not to mention some of the others................ Yes, Bill O'Reily, we need you NOW!! Integrity, Honesty, maybe Bill O'Reily could be Hillary's VP - anyway, a HUGE THANK YOU TO BILL O'REILY for taking a stand. As a HILLARY SUPPORTER, I NEEDED THAT. THANK YOU SO MUCH. a concerned Ohioan

I am just wondering, Are these republican plants blogging on her site or do people really believe this crap? I mean I know the old saying " the enemy of your enemy os your friend" ... but come on people.... SOBER UP!
